What do I mean by inquiry? Questioning... research... investigation... any of these terms will do, as long as they do not evoke the exclusive action of the intellect. Because inquiry, like meditation (its close cousin), is not exclusive. It's a process of silencing the mental noise and delving into deeper sources of information available to us.
For this, we connect with the body, sensations, movements and perceptions that are present at this moment. Want a taste? Stop for a little while and bring your attention inside your body. See what are the first things you notice. It's usually tensions and discomfort, but not necessarily. Now continue with your attention there, in your body. Do you notice more subtle sensations, such as the movement of breathing, what does it feel like when air enters? Where does it move? And when does it leave? Do you feel any movement in your belly? And in the pelvis? Do you feel your feet? How's the neck? And how does it feel inside your mouth? Is your face relaxed?
We can discover a lot of information just by bringing attention to the body. And it is also there, in the body, that we will perceive feelings. With practice, it becomes very easy to connect with fear, sadness, anger, as well as joy, lust, love... And feelings are never an end in themselves, they are always doors that lead us to understand and transmute something. In the process of the assisted Inquiry, this transmutation is completely your personal work, where I'm just going to give you a hand to continue on the path of exploring, investigating, inquiring.
And in this fertile path there are also images, memories, ideas that, in turn, open up more sensations, feelings... It is an instigating walk that challenges us to let go of stagnant concepts and emotions to flow with the truth that presents itself to us. every moment.
It turns out that stagnation is often very well stored in chronic tensions in our bodies, which make it almost impossible to access that content. This is where Bioenergetics comes in.
Bioenergetics is the most effective tool I have found in this life to get in touch with these tensions and release them. This process involves finding feelings trapped in tensions, which usually originate from times when we don't feel safe feeling or expressing what we felt. For example, a child who feels angry with their father or mother for not receiving attention from them, but fears losing the little attention he receives if he expresses his anger, will repress it, contracting the muscles of his jaw, neck, shoulders, in an attempt to of the body of holding back that scream or bite or punch that they wanted to throw. In the same way, a child who is spanked by his parents, or is intimidated by verbal aggression, or even by very high demands, will avoid these hostile feelings so as not to increase the sense of risk.
We all accumulate stored feelings. Not just anger, but crying, fear, sexual desire... many can be the feelings that at some point were perceived by us as a threat. And sometimes that feeling of threat was very close to the reality of the situation, as in the case of children who suffered physical abuse.
Bioenergetics helps to update this distorted record of reality. Because this threat of “losing the love” of the parents is recorded in this body that freezes this experience in itself, so that we become adults afraid of “losing the love” of a partner, for example, which can create a lot of difficulties in relating. And the list of limitations is long, including distortions in the relationship with power, money, creativity, motherhood, fatherhood, self-esteem, etc.
Through body exercises we access these chronic tensions and the feelings contained in them, so that they can be released and this stagnant energy flows again, opening the way for new forms of dealing with situations.
It is not about getting rid of feelings, as they all have a role to play, but about establishing a new relationship with them, listening to them instead of fearing them. Integrating what we feel opens up a powerful, creative and fluid intelligence, which deals with reality from the present moment, not through pre-established paths.
It is a challenging, enchanting and profound journey, the encounter with ourselves.
